Notice from IRS Accepting Offer in Compromise to Settle $133,000 in Federal Tax Debt for $1,700

A former attorney came to us with $133,000 in IRS debt and $31,000 owed to the State of Michigan. He hoped to resolve his tax issues so he could reapply for his law license after a DUI and professional setbacks. Because much of the IRS liability pre-dated his marriage, we submitted two separate IRS Offers in Compromise. The State accepted our $100 offer, and the IRS settled the individual $112,000 liability for $1,000 and the joint $31,000 liability for $700.

Letter from IRS-CI Criminal Investigation Division stating Criminal Investigation is Closed

The taxpayer came to us while facing a multi-year IRS Criminal Investigation. After analyzing the facts and financial records, we built a strong defense demonstrating that the government’s case was unsupported and would not succeed. We presented those findings directly to the IRS Criminal Investigation Department. As a result, taxpayer is no longer subject to Criminal Investigation.

Notice from State of Michigan re: Sales and Use Tax Audit Closed with No Tax Due

A telecommunications provider sought our help after being selected for a Sales & Use Tax Audit. We controlled the audit from start to finish and eliminated the proposed exposure – ending the audit with zero additional tax owed.

Notice from IRS Appeals Hearing Abating $115,000 in IRS Failure to File and Failure to Pay Penalties

A small engineering and product design firm with U.S and Canadian partners was wrongly advised by a prior CPA that no filings were required during loss years. The CPA failed to disclose the Form 5472 requirements under IRS §6038A, resulting in $115,000 in late filing penalties when the issue was discovered years later. Facing the possibility of shutting down the business, the partners retained us, and we worked directly with IRS Appeals to secure a full abatement of all penalties.

IRS Audit Appeal Approved Notice showing $41.623 proposed adjustment reduced to $121

The taxpayer received a 2022 notice of deficiency proposing a $38,821 tax increase and a $2,802 substantial understatement penalty after her former employer switched payroll companies mid-year, resulting in duplicate W-2’s. We filed a Tax Court petition and worked with the IRS Independent Office of Appeals to show that her income had been overstated. Appeals agreed, and the taxpayer’s liability was reduced to just $121 attributable to unchallenged 1099 income.

OIC Offer in Compromise Accepted $50,000 Balance Due Settled for $100

The taxpayer came to us with IRS and State of Michigan tax liabilities and was also behind on his filings. We brought him into full filing compliance, including successfully advocating that he had no filing requirement for certain years. He had recently married and was concerned about protecting his new spouse from exposure to his tax debts, all while managing serious medical and mental health challenges. We filed an IRS Offer in Compromise on his $50,661.35 liability and settled for $100. We then submitted a Michigan OIC on his $6,067.90 liability, also settling it for $100.

IRS Audit Resolved for $18,000 Tax Refund

A government employee working overseas in Iraq came to us after receiving an IRS audit notice for 2021. The IRS incorrectly assessed more than $20,000 in additional tax. We identified the errors in the audit findings and worked with the IRS to correct the assessment. As a result, not only was the additional tax removed, but the taxpayer received an $18,000 refund.
